MoPH Public Day likely to become a quarterly feature

−To extend outside of Georgetown

Minister of Public Health, Hon. Volda Lawrence says hosting Public Days is one of the most effective ways to meet citizens and address their issues.

Wednesday was Public Day at the ministry where Minister Lawrence met and interacted with individuals and groups.

Many of those who took advantage of the opportunity needed ministerial-level intervention for their matters. Others were following up on employment applications or looking to register for upcoming programmes and training opportunities.

Some were referred to other ministries and agencies more appropriate to their issues with those entities alerted about the individuals’ matters to ensure they were fast-tracked

Minister Lawrence, in an invited comment said, “This is a good opportunity for us to let people know that they can have a hearing and their matters can be addressed because  sometimes there are matters that do not affect the collective but just the few, or one person and this is a very good opportunity for us to hear from them and for us to have a conversation and to find redress.”

Minister Lawrence said the Public Day was likely to become a regular feature given the massive response to the initiative.

“We want to work on a specific day in every quarter where we will set aside to meet with persons here in Georgetown at the head office and then to set aside some days when we will be going to other regions because Ministry of Health is not just Georgetown and governance is not just for Georgetown.”

A similar Public Day was hosted last year where persons who visited the minister’s office were referred to the appropriate services and had their matters fast-tracked.

This was in addition to a series of government outreaches in all of the regions.
