Health officials dispatched to Moraikobai, Mahaica-Berbice (Region Five) are working with the full cooperation of residents as they seek to reduce cases of COVID-19 in the village.

Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Frank Anthony, made this disclosure during Friday’s COVID-19 update. Minister Anthony praised the combined efforts of stakeholders in getting Thursday’s campaign off the ground in Moraikobai.

“Yesterday in Moraikobai had regional officials, plus the health officials and of course the police, so it’s a combined team that had discussions with the residents, and I think from the report that I’ve received, it seems that residents are now more receptive, more people are cooperative.”

Minister Anthony said residents also agreed to the implementation of a daily curfew.

“They have agreed that they will abide by the 6pm to 6am curfew. The team also spoke to bar owners in the community and got them to comply with the COVID-19 regulations … They are not in lockdown, they just have a curfew, meaning that they go home and stay home from six in the evening to six the next morning.”

Dr. Anthony is confident that with these measures in place, Covid positive cases would reduce soon.

“We will start seeing an improvement once there is compliance with the regulation. The medical team would continue to do testing and monitor those who are currently isolated to see whether or not they develop additional symptoms. So, it’s going to work.”    Dr. Anthony said the tests done on Thursday have already been sent to the National Public Health Reference Laboratory and the results should be available by Saturday.
