─ First Adequate Housing and Urban Accessibility Programme launched

─ Home Improvement and Core Home Support for citizens

DPI, Guyana, Saturday, January 5, 2019

The Central Housing and Planning Authority  (CH&PA) in collaboration with the Inter-Development Bank (IDB) launched its first Adequate Housing and Urban Accessibility Programme at ‘C’ Sophia earlier this morning.

The programme, which was started last year, provides two housing projects; the Core Home Support and Home Improvement Subsidy.

The Core Home Support offers a four hundred square feet flat concrete building at a cost of $4M. Qualified applicants are required to make a down payment of $100,000 towards the construction. While the Home Improving Subsidy provides a grant of $500,000 in materials.

Senior Community Development Officer for CH&PA, Antonette Bennet, said the applications process for the project was started on November 1, 2018 and will be closed on February 1, 2019.

She further explained that applicants can be registered and be interviewed on spot. This will be followed by a verification visit by Field Officers, once applicants become eligible.

The project will be in four districts; areas in Georgetown, Industry to LBI on the East Coast Demerara, Eccles to Diamond/Grove on the East Bank Demerara and Parafaite Harmony in Region 3.

Persons who are applying for the Core Home Support must be living in a regularized squatting area or a CH&PA-allocated Housing Scheme and walk with the necessary documents.
