More persons taking COVID-19 vaccines, less infections recorded
Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony MP, says more persons are getting immunised against a severe form of COVID-19 disease.
The Minister made this statement during Monday’s COVID-19 Update. He said the Ministry has also recorded a reduction in infections.
“When we look across the spectrum … we have seen a decreasing trend in cases. So, the numbers generally have gone down a little bit and across the regions we are seeing that.”
He urged persons who are due for their second doses to get vaccinated.
“If you got your first dose and you’re due now for your second dose don’t delay, just come and make sure that you get your second dose vaccine. You’re not fully protected unless you’re fully vaccinated.”
Dr Anthony highlighted that while there has been a decline in active cases, countries around the world are seeing steading increases in the Delta variant. This strain, he said, is more infectious.
“That variant, once it gets into the country, it would cause more infections, hospitalisations and even deaths, and you see that predominantly among the unvaccinated, and among persons who were not fully vaccinated.
“So, I’m really urging everyone to make sure that they get their vaccines, and once they’re fully vaccinated, they will have some level of protection.”
Minister Anthony also encouraged persons who are yet to take the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine to visit any of the vaccination sites to get immunised.
To date, 287,837 have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine while 147,128 persons are fully vaccinated.
