More security personnel having capacity boosted

GINA, Guyana, Thursday, April 20, 2017

Senior ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) are continuing to receive training from international stakeholders as part of government’s thrust to build capacity, Minister of State, Joseph Harmon said.

The Minister, speaking at a post-Cabinet media briefing at the Ministry of the Presidency, today, said that Cabinet has given its approval for the attendance of Superintendent Rafeek Ally at a Firearms training programme in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Interpol sponsored programme from May 30 to 31, 2017, will discuss issues and capabilities of firearms.

Guyana will also be represented at another Interpol sponsored, International Fugitive Round and Asset Programme, by Inspector Prem Narine. This programme will be conducted from May 22 to 26. It is aimed at enabling participants to “disrupt criminal networks, responsible for organised and financial crimes, and to locate and arrest fugitives wanted at international level, as well as criminals who have left their jurisdictions to evade justice,” Minister Harmon explained.

He added that this continues to part of Government’s efforts to ensure capacity is built within the GPF.
