─ expansion project still on schedule to be completed by Dec. 31

DPI, Guyana, Tuesday, December 18, 2018

As the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) expansion project winds down, new and transformative works slated include an airside perimeter fence, access roads to and from the airport, a new VIP Lounge, landside shops, a new car park and storage facility/bond for the stowage of spares.

This was related to the National Assembly during the recent budget debates by Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson.

“When the terminal and runway is finished, we will do these transformative construction works on the airport in 2019. We will also do landscaping and fencing of landside areas and rehabilitation of sewerage network and treatment plant. Work on CJIA continued in 2018 and is nearing completion,” Minister Patterson stated.

The existing work under the project includes contracts for consultancy services and construction of the law enforcement building. Budget 2019 has provision for more than $1Billion for existing and new projects.

In early November, more than $280M was approved to facilitate payment for consultancy services. Minister Patterson assured that the expansion project is still on schedule to be completed by December 31.
