Ayasia La Fleur, the lucky beneficiary of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) Open House lottery, received the keys to her new semi-furnished home from Minister Valerie Adams-Yearwood at the Prospect New Housing Scheme, EBD today.

The single mother, who is a school janitor, said owning a piece of land was a dream which she worked daily to achieve. When given the opportunity last Sunday to fill out a form for a housing lottery at the recent CH&PA Open House Exposition, her life and that of her children changed for the better.

“I applied years ago for my own land, to build my children, we needed somewhere better. I lived on Government reserved at Guyhoc Park for years and wanted to provide a better environment for my children. Thank god for he answered my prayer and so much more.”

La Fleur won the house free of cost but was given six months to pay for the land at the cost of $100,000. However, the Guyana Public Service Union and D &J Group, paid $50,000 each to Ch&PA, clearing the single mother’s bill.

A brand-new bed, television, microwave, refrigerator among other amenities were in the house compliments from the staff of CH&PA. An emotional La Fleur said that she could finally provide the environment for her children.

Four of her children were present and expressed their delight about having their new home. “Where we used to live was very hot, my new home is breezy and with enough space for my mother and brothers. I am happy with my new home,” one of La Fleur’s sons said.

The woman also received hampers from several other organisations to start her new life at the New Prospect Housing Scheme Community.
