NCTF concerned over citizens disregarding Coronavirus advisories

highlights needs for to ‘decluster’ and practice social distancing

DPI, Guyana, Thursday, March 26, 2020

Guyana’s National COVID-19 Task Force (NCTF) has expressed grave concern that citizens are not heeding the daily public health advisories and reiterated that the novel coronavirus is not to be treated casually.

Today, following a virtual meeting by the Task Force, a call was once again made for persons to ‘decluster’ in public spaces, to zealously practice social distancing – staying at least six feet away from other people – and to refrain from socialising.

The NCTF noted that it is important that all citizens minimise physical contact between individuals, thereby reducing the possibility of contracting or transmitting the life-threatening disease.

It was recommended that persons spend as little time in public as is possible and only leave their homes when necessary.

The NCTF announced that the Guyana Police Force will be launching a massive campaign which will see several law enforcement officers advising citizens to desist from gathering a public space.

The task force commended the Ministry of Public Health and the personnel Health Emergency Operations Centre for their efforts in working to contain the spread of the virus. To date in Guyana there are five confirmed cases.
