New Boards of Guardians installed in Mahdia and Kato Region 8

Georgetown, GINA, June 18, 2016

Local Boards of Guardians were installed yesterday in the communities Mahdia and Kato in Region Eight by Minister of Social Protection Volda Lawrence and Minister within the Ministry Keith Scott.

The Boards are tasked with evaluating and determining the worthiness of the applications for processing Public Assistance and other social services in Mahdia and neighbouring communities within region.

Minister Volda Lawrence while launching Boards of Guardians at Bartica earlier this year, urged board members to go beyond making recommendations and to seek additional support to empower families by collaborating with other departments of the ministry that provide both skills training and job placement with sister agencies, or with the ministry directly.

Board members are selected from communities within their regions with the mandate of supporting families in need of Public Assistance. According to the Ministry of Social Protection there are 28 Boards of Guardians across the country.
