New Paruima primary school to open within two weeks

DPI, GUYANA, Wednesday, March 14, 2018

Students of Paruima, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) will within the next two weeks begin classes in a newly constructed primary school. This was disclosed by Regional Education Officer, Akbar Chindu during an interview with the Department of Public Information (DPI).

According to the Education Officer, the estimated cost for the construction of the building is $20M and is large enough to accommodate approximately 400 students. He also highlighted that President David Granger has made a commitment on behalf of the government to furnishing the school with a reading room.

Chindu stated that a team will be dispatched shortly to the community to ensure that all works are completed in the school and that it is in a habitable condition.

Students who attended the old Paruima Primary School are currently housed in the community’s village office.

Additionally, the Regional Education Officer disclosed that approval was granted in the 2018 National Budget for a similar school to be constructed on Kamarang at an estimated cost of $26M.
