New Secondary Department constructed at Matthew’s Ridge Primary

DPI, Guyana, Thursday, March 15, 2018

Concerns regarding the overcrowding at the Matthew’s Ridge Primary School has been resolved, thanks to leftover money from the Barima-Waini’s (Region One) 2017 capital budget.

The Department of Public Information (DPI) has learnt that residents of the Matarkai sub-District had raised concerns regarding the overcrowding of the primary school which caters for 350 students in both the primary and secondary levels.

Regional Chairman (RC), Brentnol Ashley told DPI that a decision was taken to utilise savings from the region’s 2017 capital budget to construct a new secondary department at the primary school.

Ashley noted that the new extension will not only ensure that students are housed in an environment more conducive to learning but also will ease the burden of parents having to send their children to Port Kaituma to attend school.

Ashely told DPI that he will be visiting the area shortly to ensure that the students are occupying the facility.
