DPI, Guyana, Friday, August 17, 2018

The Region Seven Regional Administration will be constructing a new secondary school in the Upper Mazaruni to mitigate the overcrowding of the Desery Fox Secondary School at Waramadong Village.

This was disclosed by Regional Chairman, Gordon Bradford during an interview with the Department of Public Information (DPI). He said that region has been consulting with a number of communities, and Kamarang was proposed because of its location.

Bradford explained that the Desery Fox Secondary School, the lone secondary school in the Upper Mazaruni, currently accommodates some 500 students, however, the institution was only built to accommodate 300 students at any one time.

Bradford said that the new building will also ease the burden of students having to travel miles upriver to attend school on a daily basis.

In the interim, a $26.327Million dormitory will be constructed at Waramadong. The contract was awarded to J’s General Store and Construction Company

Additionally, the sum of $29Million is being invested in a modern primary school at Kamarang. This will benefit the students residing in the Kamarang and surrounding villages.
