“Easter is synonymous with kite flying however I am announcing today there will be no kite flying in any of the public parks, beaches or open spaces,” the Prime Minister stated during a virtual press briefing.

Guyanese of all walks of life usually spend the Easter holidays with family and friends, cooking, ‘liming’, going to church, enjoying the annual Regatta and Rodeo and most notably, kite flying.

Persons can still fly kites in their yards if space permits such, but must ensure they follow safety procedures including avoiding power lines and not gathering in groups larger than 5 persons.

The Prime Minister also urged heads of various churches to avoid having large gatherings in their places of worship.

“There is a provision in the new order for religious services to be done virtually. For those who will host services online, there are to be no more than five persons at any given time.”

Prime Minister Nagamootoo called on Guyanese to observe the guidelines set in place to ensure that all remain safe and healthy during this season and beyond.
