DPI, Guyana, Thursday, May 2, 2019

Cabinet approved the appointment of a non-resident High Commissioner and an ambassador on Tuesday during their meeting at Watooka House, Linden.

Director-General of the Ministry of the Presidency, Joseph Harmon, during this week’s post-Cabinet press briefing said that Cabinet approved the request made by Barbados for the appointment of David Andre Comissiong as its non-resident High Commissioner to Guyana. “It is expected that the appointment of High Commissioner Commisong will serve to strengthen relations between Guyana and Barbados.”

Ireland’s request to appoint Sean Hoy, an Irish diplomat as the non-resident ambassador to Guyana was also granted. Hoy currently resides in Brasilia, Brazil. Harmon noted that “the appointment of ambassador Hoy will provide an opportunity for more frequent engagements and enhanced collaboration between Guyana and Ireland in areas of mutual interest.”

The Director-General also stated that diplomatic relations between Guyana and the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire are expected to be established. This, he said, follows discussions at the ministerial level which led to the recognition of areas of mutual interest.
