These include the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC), Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), and the Guyana Gold Board.

The Natural Resources Minister visited the agencies and met with senior staff, where he listened to their concerns and promised to resolve at the level of Cabinet.

In an invited comment, Minister Bharrat expressed his intention to tackle issues with a hands-on approach.

“I believe in order, to manage the sector properly, you need to build team spirit and teamwork with the people who are working tirelessly in these sectors to ensure that we push the Natural Resources Ministry forward,” he remarked.

He also emphasised the need for collaboration between the three agencies.

“I see these agencies as sister agencies, and not agencies that should be competing against each other or holding or withholding resources from each other because they are under the umbrella of the Ministry of Natural Resources. At the end of the day, the proceeds from these agencies is for the benefit of all Guyanese.”

Minister Bharrat noted that there will be collaboration where possible to maximise productivity.

He also assured that there will be no “witch hunting” as he is prepared to work together for the development of the industry.

If you are willing to work with me, I will work with you.”

However, he noted that there will be “zero tolerance for corruption.”
