One new COVID-19 case and one death recorded

Positive cases now stand at 273

The Ministry of Public Health has confirmed that another person has tested positive for the novel coronavirus taking the total to 273.

Sadly, the ministry is also reporting the death of 25-year-old Region Nine teacher, Donna Greaves who succumbed to the disease today. Her passing now takes the total number of COVID-related deaths to 15.

As of July 5, 2020, the country has registered 120 recoveries.

There are currently 138 active cases in isolation at various facilities across Guyana and 16 persons in institutional quarantine. The number of patients in the COVID-19 ICU has increased to 10.

To date, 2,806 tests have been conducted with 2,533 of those being negative.

Persons are again reminded to continue practising social distancing in the workplace, public spaces, and while using public transportation to reduce the spread of the coronavirus disease. They are also reminded to practise frequent hand washing/sanitising and always wear a face mask if they have to go out.

As of July 5, 2020, the WHO is reporting that globally the confirmed cases stand at 11,125,245 with 528,204 deaths. While in the Regions of the Americas, positive cases now stand at 5,697,954 with a total of 262,538 deaths.
