One year later, the Coalition still stands

A year after an attempt to topple the Coalition Government, Minister of Finance, Hon. Winston Jordan says the administration remains as formidable as ever.

On December 21, 2018, government backbencher Charrandass Persaud voted with the parliamentary opposition in a no-confidence motion brought against the administration.

The months which followed found the administration heading to the courts to determine the legality of that vote. A year later, the administration is preparing for General and Regional Elections, a few months shy of the constitutional timeframe.

“They thought they had knocked us out. But look one year after, where are we, right here, because the coalition government has resilience. And we are not for the short sprint; we are thoroughbreds, one mile and a quarter.  Not too many can make that distance,” Minister Jordan told residents of  Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara on Monday.

He said the government showed grit during that year, notwithstanding the challenges including the multiple lawsuits it faced. He added that the Coalition Government is still standing and working for the people of Guyana.

“They could huff and puff, but they will not blow the Coalition Government away.”

“We can look forward to good times under this government,” he assured the residents, adding that Guyanese must ensure this when they go to the polls on March 2, 2020.

“These people will not be wished away. A wounded lion does not go down without a fight,” he said of the opposition.

He said the improved quality of life would continue when the Coalition Government returns to office.
