Opinion poll on elections on for this weekend

A political opinion poll on the expected General and Regional Elections is set to commence on Saturday. The results of this poll will reflect the opinion of the nation on various issues.
The Turkeyen Research and Polling Institute (TRPI) will conduct the findings after which these will be released on Monday, August 26.
Trinidad-born Political Analyst, Dr. Kirk Meighoo, who is heading the initiative of conducting the political opinion poll, commencing Saturday.
This initiative is being headed by Trinidad-born Political Analyst, Dr. Kirk Meighoo. The “face to face” interviews of Guyanese eligible to vote in the next General and Regional Elections will be conducted across the ten Administrative Regions of Guyana.
According to Dr. Meighoo, questions in the survey will focus on the widespread support of various political figures, along with potential and prospective Presidential and Prime Ministerial candidates. The tracking opinion polls will also determine popular support for presidential contenders and parties, along with people’s views on a host of contemporary issues going right into the General and Regional Elections.
The poll will also determine persons’ opinions on the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) as well as the nation’s faith in the electoral process, Dr. Meighoo reported.
Back in June of this year, an independent opinion poll conducted by the Barbados-based Caribbean Development Research Services Inc. (CADRES), showed that President David Granger has a high 94% approval ratings among supporters of the Coalition Government and the country as a whole.
The findings of that report showed that President Granger enjoys a 94% approval rating among APNU+AFC supporters in terms of his leadership. Also, it indicated that he enjoys a 50% overall approval rating when supporters of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) and ‘uncertain voters’ are added.
TRPI is a non-partisan, non-political organisation comprising of journalists, teachers, academics and other professionals. It was founded in 1990 by Professor Dr. Baytoram Ramharack, a Guyanese born American trained in Political Science. He currently teaches in New York, United States of America (USA).
