Opposition defiance failed to stymie development in Region 5

DPI, Guyana, Thursday, January 9, 2020.

The improvement in the quality of life in the communities in Region Five, Mahaica-Berbice proceeded apace over the past four years, despite the continuous defiance of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic dominated Council. This was highlighted by former Member of Parliament Jennifer Wade.

Wade who is from Region Five was speaking at the Coalition rally held at the Hopetown Community Centre on Wednesday evening in the presence of His Excellency President David Granger, Prime Minister the Hon. Moses Nagamootoo and Minister of Public Security, Hon. Khemraj Ramjattan.

She noted that “When the Coalition came into Office President Granger offered the olive branch to the Opposition; they rejected that hand of goodwill.” Wade drew attention to the fact that despite opposition from the Chairman and his councillors the Regional Administration under the leadership of Regional Executive Officer Ovid Morrison stood resolute and succeeded in its efforts to bring development to the Region.

It was noted that there were improvements in health services and infrastructure; to education delivery, facilities and infrastructure; support for farmers such as adequate Drainage and Irrigation, provision of bridges and farm-to-market roads; to improvements in the access roads for communities throughout the Region.

Wade also mentioned what has been described as the “game-changing” sluice at D’ Edward built by the Coalition for $431Million and providing efficient drainage for over 16,000 acres of arable lands in West Coast Berbice (WCB). A boon to farmers, offering security for the success of all their agricultural activities.

She added that the Coalition government has demonstrated to the citizens of Guyana how an effect administration operates.
