Outboard engines among equipment handed over to Indigenous Communities

Several Indigenous communities have received outboard engines and other equipment, under the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs capital programme. The ministry recently presented 40 horsepower outboard engines to St.

Cuthberts/Pakuri, Region Four, Siparuta, Region Six, and Malali and Hururu in Region Ten.
In addition to the outboard engines, the Malali community received a solar freezer, musical instruments, a solar panel and agriculture tools, while St. Cuthberts benefited from musical instruments and sports gears. Kangaruma, Region Seven and Kaitapin, Region Eight, also received brushcutters.
Last month, the villages of Yarakita and Sebai, Region One, each received a tractor and trailer to boost their agriculture drive. Masakenari, Region Nine also received a truck, which was acquired under the Community Development Plan (CDP). The truck will provide a trucking service in Deep South, Rupununi.
These initiatives are part of government’s intention to reduce the culture of dependency within hinterland villages, thereby, creating a sense of economic independence amongst the Indigenous population.
