Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo has described the government outreaches as a “mobile government reaching out to the grassroots, to understand their issues in order to deliver solutions”.

The Prime Minister was at the time addressing the residents of Tuschen at a community meeting.

According to the Prime Minister, the government started these outreaches when they took office in 2015.

“Since then, we have been able to use information, that was gathered from these outreaches, to deliver a better life to our citizens.”

He further said, “we have been notified that the certain NDCs [Neighbourhood Democratic Councils] are not delivering the relevant services to the people,” while the government continues to work to improve people’s lives by improving service delivery in areas such as delivering better roads and water among others.

Prime Minister Nagamootoo stated that the role of the NDC is to bring better services to citizens. However, there are certain NDCs controlled by Opposition the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) which are bent on not delivering adequate services to stymie the work of the government.

“Your being here is an expression that you have full confidence in your government, that we can deliver on our promises and I thank you,” Prime Minister said.

He assured residents that all issues raised during the meeting would be addressed either through the Office of the Prime Minister or via the relevant agencies.

Also present at the community meeting was Managing Director of the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), Dr. Richard Van West-Charles, who said: “we are here to ensure that we can improve the access to and quality of water to all citizens.” He noted also that “you are part of this process; we want you to help us to rectify issues you are facing so that we can produce a better quality of water.”

The Managing Director announced that a new water treatment plant which will improve the quality of water will be commissioned soon in Uitvlugt.

Mervin Williams, newly appointed Member of Parliament related to the residents of Tuschen that the government is keen on bringing development to every community in the country. These outreaches, Williams stated, “help us, the government to deliver a better quality of life for all of us, we [Government] embarked on these exercises with you in mind. We receive your information and process that information and then the government will be able to deliver solutions to your issues.”
