Over $5B being invested in Region Two – Min Dharamlall

Over $5 billion has been invested in the Pomeroon-Supenaam to further develop the Region. Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Hon. Nigel Dharamlall made this disclosure today at the Presidential outreach ongoing in Region Two.

In his address at the Regional Democratic Council Boardroom, the Minister said Region Two has benefited tremendously since the passage of the Emergency Budget.

“So far, we have been able to inject as much as $5.1 billion and that includes the regional budget of $4.7 billion and the over 4,500 cash grant packages that the President initiated a few months ago to the tune of over $340 million.”

Minister Dharamlall said there has been significant investment in infrastructure with more than 50 miles of drains being cleaned.  Also, more than 50 miles of roads are currently being rehabilitated, which is slated to be completed by December 15.

The Minister also noted that the hospitals in the Region have been equipped with adequate staff and supplies.

“All the health facilities have the basic health and medical supplies when just a few months ago there were short on supplies.”

Resources will also be made available to upgrade the Region’s two hospitals. Meanwhile, Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Hon. Deodat Indar disclosed that money will be spent on the Suddie sea defence, roads, street lights and on the Supenaam Stelling.
