Parfaite Harmonie residents benefit from outreach

─ Mini-exercise held to address specific issues

DPI, Guyana, Saturday, August 10, 2019

Residents of the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara Region are poised to benefit from government services via another ‘government comes to you’ outreach. The exercise is currently being held at the La Parafaite Harmonie Primary School.

This outreach, the second to the region, follows calls from residents to have some issues addressed. Among the main issues to be addressed are rehabilitation of roads, erection of street lights, disruption of electricity supply, drainage and irrigation, overgrown vegetation, and access to potable water.

Prime Minister, Hon. Moses Nagamootoo, Minister of Communities,Him. Ronald Bulkan, Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Hon. Jaipaul Sharma, Director-General of the Ministry of the Presidency, Joseph Harmon and Managing Director of GWI, Dr. Richard Van West-Charles are present at the event.

Prime Minister Nagamootoo said outreaches such as these allow the government to address issues affecting residents and also allow the government to give priority to persons who need immediate help.

The region, Prime Minister Nagamootoo noted, is controlled by the opposition who are holding back development in an attempt to make the Coalition Government appear to be delict in their duty to provide services to the residents.

He pointed out that most of the problems were inherited from the previous administration however the current administration is working to address these.  “You will decide where the problems exist, the nature of the problem and here we will listen to you and we almost immediately take action” the Prime Minister stated.

Residents are being urged to take advantage of services that will be provided as it is part of an effort to ensure that government meets with the people at the grassroots level, interact with them directly to ensure the promise of the ‘good life’ for all is fulfilled.

The government continues to meet with citizens countrywide in efforts to make their lives better. For 2019 alone, there have been close to two dozen ministerial government outreaches and community meetings countrywide.
