-new schedule in effect from April 13, 2020

DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, April 8, 2020

The ferry service that operates between Parika and Supenaam will serve the public on weekdays only from Monday, starting April 13, 2020.

This was announced by the Transport and Harbours Department (THD) in a press release on Wednesday.

According to the release, the decision was taken, “due to the high demand for the Supenaam service and the need to enforce social distancing.”

THD noted the restriction of weekend travel aboard the ferry is part of Government’s efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The new schedule will see the departure of the ferry from Supenaam at 7am for Parika, then a trip from Parika to Supenaam at 2pm.

Through public advisories, the Ministry of Public Health and other Government bodies have encouraged citizens to only travel for essential services. Commuters are further asked to maintain a distance of 6 feet from other persons to lessen their chances of contracting COVID-19.

Frequent hand washing and exercise of good hygiene practices are also advised. Hotline numbers to the COVID-19 call centres should someone experience symptoms akin to the virus are 231-1166, 226,7480, 624,6674, 624,2819 and 624,3067.
