Just about one year ago, Keith Mc Gowan was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Male Surgical Ward after his doctor reported that he had contracted the H. Pylori Bacteria (Helicobacter Pylori).

Helicobacter Pylori is a type of bacteria which can enter your body and live in your digestive tract. After many years, sores called ulcers are developed in the lining of the stomach or the upper part of the small intestine. In some cases, this infection can lead to stomach cancer.

McGowan, a Pastor of the New Covenant Teaching Centre, spent less than a week in the hospital but has taken note of the service he has received, calling it exceptional and recommending that the institution be an option, as the service delivery has improved and remains free of charge.

“I just took a chance actually. I am happy that I took that chance because in my mind I thought the hospital was way back in the 70’s and 80’s but coming here I learned that is not so, washroom, the ward clean, the nurses are kind and understanding. Everything was good, that is the reason why I would recommend the Georgetown Hospital based on my experience.”

While in the hospital and even onwards, Pastor Mc Gowan has relied heavily on his faith for a speedy recovery. However, he explained that the hospitality rendered treatment and aided in his recovery phase. This has prompted him to contribute a 55-inch Samsung flat screen television.

While there, he realised that there needed to be some form of distraction in the ward for men who may be struggling with recuperation. Also taking into consideration that men like sport and news channels, this is one way in which the men in the ward can be up to date with what is going on outside of the hospital.

“The experience here for less than a week was tremendous, the nurses, the entire ward was clean and I know the hospital would like to hear this part, the service was very good so I thought I should make this contribution to help to boost the morale of the men who are experiencing pain and suffering every day in this ward.”

Dr. Fawcett Jeffrey, Director of Medical and Professional Services of the hospital, was elated at the kind gesture of Pastor Mc Gowan.

“I am pleasantly surprised that a patient of ours after having received medical attention here would come up with such a generous donation and it’s not a generous donation only to the institution, but it’s in keeping what he thought would be beneficial to other patients who would be on this ward.”
