Patrons savour the flavours of Restaurant Week

DPI, Guyana, Tuesday, June 25, 2019

Guyana Restaurant Week is a much-anticipated event on the Tourism Calendar. The culinary event started on June 21 and runs until June 30, and many patrons are seizing the opportunity to dine out and cash in on the mouthwatering menus at the 19 participating restaurants.

The Department of Public Information (DPI) visited several restaurants around the city to garner feedback from the entities on the success of the event thus far.

Over at Herdmanston Lodge, Events Coordinator, Lisa Mcintyre said Restaurant Week affords businesses, such as hers, a boost and lets people know that there are places that offer fine dining apart from the popular locations. “We were booked out for the first two days, and had the pleasure of accommodating up to 80 persons for lunch and 70 in the evening for dinner and our reservations are climbing as of recently – I guess it’s because of the marketing strategy implemented.”

On Sherriff Street, we visited OMG – the Arawak Steakhouse. Manager Andrew James said customers have been responding well. “Guyana Restaurant Week is the perfect time to dine in style, to satisfy your appetite with our gourmet meals and our fine wines… We always look forward to Restaurant Week because it’s a time when customers respond and our numbers go up. It is also a perfect time to bring out the family, and we encourage patrons to bring their family, come out and have a good time with us,” he urged.

A frequent customer of the Arawak Steakhouse, Father Terrence Montrose, told the DPI team: “This is my restaurant of choice. It’s quick, it’s easy and the food is delicious… The decor is very relaxing and you can spend hours here. I like that it is very tranquil here and I always enjoy it when I come here.”

Guyana Restaurant Week is an initiative of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana and is supported by the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA).

According to GTA’S Director Brian Mullis, the initiative helps to elevate the food and service quality of local restaurateurs, expand their business, and provide the public with exceptional dining experiences. The net result is raising the global profile of Guyana’s culinary offerings.

For Restaurant Week, patrons are encouraged to enter the related contest and win prizes by snapping a ‘selfie’ with your meal while dining at participating restaurants and post the images to your social media timeline with the hashtag #OfficialGRW and tag the restaurants where you took the photos.

The participating restaurants are Antonio’s Grille, Aagman Restaurant, Bistro Café and Bar, Cara Lodge, Café Bellvana, Grand Coastal Hotel, Pegasus Hotel, Java Coffee Bar, New Thriving Restaurant, Brasil Churrascaria, OMG! Restaurant, Petit Four, Herdmanston Lodge, Guyana Marriott Hotel, Roraima Duke Lodge, The Vintage Wine Bar, Windjammer Restaurant, and Xie Xie Restaurant.
