– several projects in the pipeline for execution

DPI, Guyana, Tuesday, June 25, 2019

Minister within the Ministry of Communities, with responsibility for Housing, Annette Ferguson is currently familiarising herself with all existing housing projects under the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA).

The minister made this disclosure during an interview with the Department of Public Information (DPI) as she was in the process of a walkabout at the Perseverance Housing Scheme on the East Bank of Demerara. She explained that along with her team at CH&PA, she is ensuring that all her duties are conducted promptly.

“There are some minor matters that are currently being been addressed with respect to my office and as soon those are completed, I will be going out into the fields to conduct further assessments relating to housing matters,” the minister explained.

She added that several pending projects fall under the purview of the under CH&PA, which she plans to bring to the attention of citizens.

“I have a number of outreaches planned for this month end and next month; I will be visiting several communities within Region 4 to speak to residents on housing-related issues. For the year, thus far there have been some meaningful housing projects completed, and before the end of 2019, Guyanese can look forward to a lot more,” Min. Ferguson said.

On May 16, following a Cabinet reshuffle in April, Minister Ferguson, who was then Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, was re-assigned to the Ministry of Communities as the minister responsible for housing. She replaces Minister Valerie Adams-Yearwood, who is now Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture, with responsibility for Rural Affairs.
