Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo has pledged government’s commitment to rehabilitate and install lights alongside the road leading to Region Five’s (Mahaica-Berbice) beachfront.
This was disclosed during the opening of the Regional Agricultural and Commercial Exhibition (RACE) held under the theme “Sustaining a green economy through food security,” at the Paradise Ground.
In response to a request made by Imran Sacoor, President of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CIC), Prime Minister Nagamootoo said the initiative is one that will be considered for the peoples’ benefit, as it is one of the potential places of pride within the region.
“I have asked the Minister of Communities [Ronald Bulkan] to make his best effort to ensure that consideration is given for that project in 2019,” the Prime Minister said.
He noted that should the residents’ expectation of the project fall short, he would return to further assist to create the residents’ vision through a self-help contribution. This, he said, is similar to the region’s previous effort to rehabilitate one of their educational institutions.
Sacoor said the beach area is not only an excellent tourism destination for the Belladrum and Paradise communities but creates economic opportunities for the residents. “I have been talking to the councillors about how we can [regional administration] improve the facility so that we can bring local tourism to Paradise and Belladrum communities.”
The beachfront between the Belladrum and Paradise communities was commissioned in 2015 to increase the region’s tourism potential.
