DPI, Guyana, Friday, December 14, 2018

The Guyana Police Force ‘A’ Division hosted its second annual Christmas Luncheon and awards ceremony where officers on the forces were recognised for their outstanding work during the year.

Sergeant George Conway and Sergeant Garvin Boyce of the Guyana Police force ‘A’ Division were awarded for their outstanding work in the lines of duty, Criminal Investigation and Traffic for the year 2018.

Sergeant Conway emerged as Best Cop while sergeant Boyce was the runner-up. Assistant Divisional Commander, Marlon Chapman said the awards to the two most outstanding officers were well deserved.

“The year 2018 is almost at an end and we must take time out to reflect on the challenges and success we would have had during the year. I first want to take the opportunity to commend all the ranks who work tirelessly throughout the year, overcoming each and every challenge every step of the way and producing tangible results as we all strive to achieve our mandate which is to prevent and detect crime and to maintain law and order.”

Commander Chapman also explained that this act of recognition by the division should push others in the force to give their best.

Both individuals received a slew of prizes and awards from business partners with the police force including Roraima Group of Companies, Laparkan Group of Companies, 93.1 FM radio station, C. Persaud Dental Lab and Clinic and Courts Guyana among many others.

Commissioner of Police Leslie James has noted that the overall outstanding performance of the police force has resulted in the reduction of serious crimes. Added to this, the administration of the force is well underway to ensure it is reformed and is more effective in the way its work is carried out.

“Today is a day which members of this division always look forward to and I am so happy to see everyone converge on this occasion… Looking at the achievement for the force as a collective, ‘A’ division is just part of the whole of the organization, and we have seen a decrease of 11% in serious crimes.”

Other ranks also received commander’s awards and were recognized as officer of the month for each month in the year. Also, several officers received on the spot promotions

The Commissioner assured that more officers of ‘A’ division can expect promotions before the end of the year.
