Polyethnic composition, youth and gender balance make up Gov’t side of 12th Parliament

The next sitting of Parliament will see a mix of experienced, youth, gender equity and an even greater ethnic makeup from the Government side.

In its list submitted to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), extracted from its List of Candidates, the Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) has named among its 33-member team, five persons of Indigenous heritage.

These are; Lee Gendre Hakkim Williams, Pauline Sukhai, Yvonne Pearson, Alister Charlie and Dr. Thandika Smith.

The list of 33 consists of thirteen (13) new Members of Parliament, young women and men, as well as those more experienced members of the party.

There are six (6) Medical Doctors, four (4) Attorneys-at-Law, Economists, Administrators, Labour Activists, Broadcasters and Media Practitioners and Members of the Business Community as well.

The party is especially proud that Indigenous Guyanese are well represented by strong leadership from their communities.

According to the party, its 2020 Parliamentary team demonstrates that the PPP/C is truly a national party representing the diversity of Guyana. “All ethnic groups, geographic regions and a broad range of skills and knowledge.”

On its list, the PPP/C has named candidates for the ten (10) Regional Democratic Councils (RDCs) as well.

Meanwhile, the party reiterated, that His Excellency, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, has appointed Mrs. Oneidge Walrond and Mr. Robeson Benn as Technocratic Ministers as neither were on the PPP/C List of Candidates to the National Assembly.

This decision, the party said, was provided for in the Constitution.

The party will also, very soon, name its Parliamentary Secretaries to sit in the National Assembly, this is also in keeping with the Constitutional provisions.
