Preparations for women’s world cup coming along smoothly- Director of Sport

Preparations for the International Cricket Council ICC Women’s World Twenty20 slated for November 2018 are progressing smoothly. This was disclosed by Director of Sport and Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Christopher Jones.

Jones indicated that a team from the LOC recently returned from a meeting with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) in Antigua on the preparedness of the host countries. These include Guyana, Antigua and Barbuda and St Lucia. It was revealed that a meeting was scheduled today to review and discuss what transpired at the meeting with the WICB.

The Sports Director also said “preparations are being put in place to acquire” an electronic scoreboard and a replay screen. One of the requirements for hosting the international tournament is the installation of the scoreboard and a replay screen. He further added that the minor issues pointed out during the first visit by the WICB to the Providence Stadium, are currently being addressed.

This tournament would be the sixth of its kind and the second to be hosted in the West Indies. Guyana will be hosting the preliminary round and warm-up matches for the tournament in November.

Defending champions and hosts West Indies will battle against New Zealand, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and England who have all achieved qualification. Bangladesh, Holland, Ireland, Papua New Guinea, Scotland, Thailand, and Uganda or the United Arab Emirates, will compete in the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier for the two remaining spots in the Netherlands from 3 to14 July.
