DPI, Guyana, Thursday, October 11, 2018

At least 120 businesses, non-governmental and government agencies will be displaying their green technologies at the first-ever Green Guyana Expo.

Some exhibitors are already preparing their displays at the National Stadium’s tarmac where the expo will be held. The Ministry of Communities was among the exhibitors setting up their exhibits.

The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA) will be displaying its low-income house, Engineer Randolph Hunte told the Department of Public Information (DPI), when it visited the site yesterday.

According to Hunte, the 20 ft by 20 ft wooden structure will be part of the ministry’s model green community. He said H2O Guyana will supply water to the building while Caribbean Wind and Sun will provide solar power.

The CHPA engineer explained that the model home was designed to “reduce the use of any harmful substance or material from the environment”.

Eusi Rogers, Chief Engineer of Caribbean Wind and Sun, said the company welcomes the opportunity to showcase green alternatives and will be powering the entire expo with wind and solar power. “It comes at such an important time when relying on fossil energy becomes so unstable… at this point in time the renewable energy is very reliable,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Green Guyana Expo, Eric Phillips, noted the set up of the booths themselves will be a demonstration of the green technology. The Institute of Applied Science and Technology (IAST) is constructing a green hut that is unlike canvas booths usually found at exhibitions, Phillips explained.

The Green Guyana Expo is slated for October 18-20. On October 18-19 the Expo will facilitate a business summit at the Princess Ramada Hotel.

Persons interested in participating can contact the Green Guyana Expo Secretariat on telephone number 672-1930 or visit their Facebook page.
