President and ISESCO officials discuss plans to set up Islamic educational training centre

Georgetown, GINA, February 10, 2014

 

Plans to boost the fields of educations, science, communication and culture with assistance from the Islamic, Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO), were discussed when senior Islamic officials met with President Donald Ramotar at the Presidential Complex on February 10.

According to ISESCO Director General Dr. Abdulaziz Otheman Althwaijri, future plans for the establishment of an Islamic educational centre in Georgetown for the training of teachers and curriculum developers that will assist government to put the strategies of education according to established policies and participate in the development of strategies, locally, are being considered.

He said support will be extended to scientific research and high performing students, from both sexes, will benefit from scholarships. “This is a responsibility that ISESCO will carry from its side”.

There are 52 nations in the ISESCO which was formally launched following the Ninth Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers meeting in Dakar, Senegal, in April 1978.
