President Granger attends church service to commemorate 175th Anniversary of Georgetown

Georgetown, Guyana – (August 19, 2018)

President David Granger, this morning, attended a Special Thanksgiving Service to commemorate the 175th Anniversary of the City of Georgetown, which was held at the St. George’s Cathedral.

The President was joined by Vice President and Minister of Public Security, Mr. Khemraj Ramjattan, former Prime Minister and Mayor of Georgetown, Mr. Hamilton Greene, Minister within the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Karen Cummings and Mayor of the City of Georgetown, Mrs. Patricia Chase-Green.

In observance of the anniversary, the Georgetown Mayor and Town Council will be embarking on a week of activities, dubbed ‘City Week’ with the aim of fostering a closer relationship among employees through sports, cultural, and other forms of social entertainment; providing an opportunity for the business community to showcase locally produced items and for the Council to form alliances with other critical stakeholders and improve the Council’s corporate image.

Commencing with the Church service today, the activities will run until August 25th and include an art and craft exhibition on Main Street, a health fair and a Mayor’s Ball and cocktail reception.
