President joins in celebrating life and work of Dr Jagan

To commemorate the life and work of Guyana’s first democratically -elected President, Dr. Cheddi Jagan, the month of activities planned and executed during March continued today with a Family Fun Day on the lawns of State House.
At the venue were booths with pictorial and video displays of the late Dr. Jagan and successive Heads of State under the People’s Progressive Party, and developments in the various social sectors under the current administration. There were also leather and handicrafts, beverages, and face painting booths

President Donald Ramotar took the time off to mingle with the large crowd, greeting patrons, sharing photo opportunities and viewing the displays that were exhibited.
During brief remarks, President Ramotar reflected on the life of Dr. Jagan, noting that he dedicated his life to ensuring that the people of Guyana live comfortable lives.
President Ramotar noted that the PPPC Government is very loyal to the vision of Dr. Jagan, and will continue in the pathway
of development..

He spoke about the education system which has improved over the years; health, and the Cheddi Jagan Airport Expansion Project, the Amerindian Development Fund and the Amaila Falls Hydro Power Project which were slashed during Budget 2013. “Because the opposition’s non-support of these critical projects, development has been staggered…,” the President said.
He urged the gathering to continue to work together in unity to ensure continued development.

Meanwhile, PPP General Secretary and Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee who echoed similar sentiments, stated that Dr. Jagan would have struggled to ensure Guyana is where it is today, and it is unfortunate that he didn’t live long enough to see how the country has developed.
Entertaining patrons at the event were Shakti Strings and popular local chutney artistes, along with Young Bill Rogers and dancers from East Coast and East Bank Dance groups, among others.
