President presents 13 new Second Lieutenants and 11 Warrant Officers with instruments of commission

Georgetown, GINA, February 13, 2014

 

The 13 officers who have attained the position of Second Lieutenant, today received the instrument of commission from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Donald Ramotar at a ceremony held in the Credentials Room at the Office of the President.

The new Second Lieutenants were formally decorated, with their badge of rank, by the President on Wednesday, at the Standard Officers; Course 46 commissioning parade staged by the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Camp Ayanganna. The new officers are Simon Gordon, Alvin Hollandar, Steffhon Branche, Deshon Harris, Keevin Solaru, Neil Asregado, Malivai Forde, Lawrence King, Shaheed Melville, Obitre Hytmiah and Carlos Moore.

Also receiving their instruments of commission were 11 Warrant Officers. The newly promoted Non- Commissioned Officers including two females are Weslyn Blades, Marcia Williams, Marlon Daniels, Zamil Thomas, Roopnarine Boodhoo, Halford Craig, Dwayne Layne, Sherlock Rigby, Daynar Nelson, Leyland Liverpool and Shirlon Damon

Best Student Simon Gordon gave assurances to the President on behalf of the officers that they would execute their mandate professionally, in accordance with the oath they took and not disappoint him.

The GDF commenced training of Cadets in 1969 and in 1981 the Officer Cadet Division of Training Corps evolved into the first Officer Cadet School in the English speaking Caribbean. It was subsequently named the Colonel Ulric Pilgrim Officer Cadet School in honour of the school’s first Commander. To date the school has successfully produced more than  450 officers for various components of the Disciplined Services.
