President Ramotar checks on Marriott hotel construction- continues to be impressed with pace and quality

Georgetown, GINA, January 4, 2013

President Donald Ramotar today visited the Marriott Hotel construction at Kingston, aback of the National Centre for Education Resource Development (NCERD), accompanied by Minister of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh, and other high-ranking officials including Head of the Privatisation Unit, Winston Brassington.

President Ramotar, who toured the building including some model rooms, was impressed with the pace and quality of construction on the project.

“It has really set another standard for construction in our country, and we are looking forward to an early opening as possible so that we can develop our tourist industry,” the Head of State said.

The Marriott hotel is on target for an August 2014 commissioning, and President Donald Ramotar said such infrastructure would go a very far way in advancing Guyana’s economic development, and improving the livelihood of Guyanese.

The Marriott will boast 197 rooms, a large ballroom, conference centre, casino, nightclub, restaurant, a concrete walkway and all other amenities of a world-class hotel.

On completion, it will provide employment for close to 500 Guyanese.

The project was launched in 2011 and is an estimated total investment of US$51M.

The Marriott Hotel which is expected to be completed by August
