Press release – EPA hosts consultation on marine litter and microplastics
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on September 29-30, 2020, hosted a virtual Consultation for the Latin America and Caribbean (GRULAC) Region on ‘Marine Plastic Litter and Microplastics’. This consultation was a collaboration among the Environmental Protection Agency- Guyana, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Secretariat on the Ad-Hoc Open Ended Experts Group (AHEG).
This Regional Consultation brought together high-level representatives, leading policy-makers, experts, and stakeholders with an interest in marine litter and microplastics from member states of Latin American and the Caribbean Region.
The aim of the consultation was to provide an opportunity for member states to share information on current actions to reduce marine plastic litter and microplastics, exchange views, and solict inputs from the region in preparation for the 4th meeting of the Expert Group (AHEG-4) which will take place from November 9-13, 2020. The AHEG-4 meeting will preceed the UN Environment Assembly scheduled for February 22-26, 2021.
