Prime Minister meets Russian Ambassador

Prime Minister Honourable Moses Nagamootoo today met with H.E. Alexander Kurmaz, Ambassador of the Russian Federation.

While affirming the friendly relations between the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and the Russian Federation, Prime Minister disclosed that he sought to find out whether the Russian – registered company, RUSAL, has ended its operations in Guyana, having dismissed 326 bauxite workers.

The Prime Minister stated that while the Ambassador indicated that he could not speak for the private company, he disclosed that RUSAL has suspended its operations in Guyana, and that the company has issued a statement to this effect.

Invitation for the meeting was extended by the Prime Minister for what he described as cordial and friendly exchange of views on matters of mutual interest.

Attending the meeting were Mrs. Deeann Ali, Personal Assistant to the Prime Minister, and Dmitry Y. Kornilov, Third Secretary of the Russian Embassy.
