Public consultations on GSDS to begin soon

GSDS 20-year vision presented recently to Cabinet

−presentation outlined how the strategy will be implemented

Minister of State, Joseph Harmon, today, said a presentation was received recently by the Cabinet on the vision of the Green State Development Strategy (GSDS), the brainchild of President David Granger.

The GSDS, the minister noted is proposed as an economic development strategy and provides a vision and model for development over a 20-year period from 2020-2040.

Key objectives of the strategy include managing the natural resources wealth, supporting economic resilience, green inclusiveness and economic diversification.

Minister Harmon said the presentation also detailed the manner in which the GSDS will be implemented and the expected benefits to various sectors, as well as its overall impact on the future sustainable development of Guyana as a ‘green state’.

It was agreed by the Cabinet that the next step involves public consultations on the GSDS.

Guyana’s Green State Development Strategy is meant to be a national development plan, providing a long-term vision and guidance for Guyana’s economic, social and environmental development.
