Public Infrastructure Ministry refutes Guyana Time article
—Clarifies failing Region 2 road was done by RDC, not the Ministry

The Ministry of Public Infrastructure has refuted a Guyana Times article, stating that “it fell short of truth concerning the alleged poor quality of Government road projects.”
The article in question was published on June 18, titled, “Millions Wasted as Lima Sands Road deteriorates”. According to the article, vehicle owners have bemoaned the state of the road that has allegedly led to insurmountable costs in vehicle repairs.

In a press statement, the Ministry said, this was misleading since the photograph used [by the newspaper] did not depict the current state of the road.”
The regional engineer for the Pomeroon-Supenaam area, substantiated this, explaining that a site visit was conducted yesterday where it was observed that the Lima Sands approach road – a straight 2km length of road – is in good condition.
The Engineer added that the Ministry took photographs of the deteriorating roadway which is located in the village.
“[the Ministry’s photograph was taken] in the village itself and shows the poor condition of the crusher run overlay that was carried out by the local RDC in 2018. I could not locate the places where the article photos were taken but definitely not on MoPI’s project,” he noted.
The Ministry of Public Infrastructure has called for journalists to exercise responsibility while disseminating information to the public. Further, the Ministry maintained it has an open-door policy for the media should clarity be needed on any project under its purview.
