Public Service Min. spreads Christmas cheer at Fair View

The faces of more than one hundred Fair View children were lit up with joy on Saturday last as they received Christmas goodies from Minister of Public Service, Hon. Tabitha Sarabo-Halley, M.P.

Minister Sarabo-Halley took good tidings and Christmas cheer as she distributed gifts to children of the far-flung North Rupununi, community.

The Minister visited as part of her fact-finding outreach to the Iwokrama River Lodge and research centre as she followed up on His Excellency, President David Granger’s commitment to establishing a biodiversity training centre at the more than one million acres’ rainforest conservation project.

Also, Hon. Minister Sarabo-Halley joined the pastor and members of the Fair View Love and Faith Ministry as they carolled through the night on Saturday.

On Sunday the Minister of Public Service fellowshipped with the congregants of the church as they held their Christmas concert and made jolly.

In brief remarks, she expressed her best wishes for them to realise their desires and hopes. She also encouraged them to craft a vision for their community and make preparations for all the opportunities which will become available when Guyana starts to produce oil.

Fair View Amerindian Village is situated on the left bank or the western bank of the Essequibo River at the crossing and is also known historically as Kurupukari. It is located adjacent to the Linden-Lethem Road.

The community which holds the title for approximately 21,950.82 hectares of land is the only Amerindian territory located within the Iwokrama Forest Programme Site.

Fair View has an approximate population of 232 with males having a slightly higher number than female. The population is made up of the Makushi, Wapishana, Patamona people, some of whom practice Christianity.

Among the skills to be found in the community are boat captain, rangers, tour guides, cooks, chainsaw operator, mason, carpenters, drivers and farmers.
