The interventions of the Regional Democratic Councils (RDCs) of Regions Two, Five, Six and Ten, to minimise the challenges brought on by the rainy season, are yielding positive results.

Pomeroon-Supenaam (Region Two) Chairperson, Ms. Vilma Audrey Da Silva said the region is preparing for the rains.  Communities in Upper and Lower Pomeroon River, the Housing Scheme and Amazon area in Charity, some parts of Lima, Anna Regina, Reliance, Annandale, Riverstown and Good Hope Pomona experienced slight flooding, but the water has since receded. Further, repairs to the pumps at Capoey and Hampton Court should be completed by Thursday.

Chairman of Mahaica-Berbice (Region Five) RDC, Mr. Vickchand Ramphal said two excavators are in Rosignol clearing drains and the water has receded.

Regional Chairman of East Berbice-Corentyne (Region Six), Mr. Permaul Armogan reported slight flooding in New Amsterdam due to overtopping of water from the trenches into residents’ yards. There were no other reports in the region of flooding, damage to property or loss of livestock.

Meanwhile, Upper Demerara-Berbice (Region Ten) Chairman, Mr. Deron Adams, said there is minor rainfall since Monday’s deluge and no new reports of flooding.
