Minister of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, Sydney Allicock officially commissioned the Region Nine’s Regional Democratic Council (RDC) newly renovated wing to cater for additional staff.

At the commissioning, the minister commended the region for being proactive and working in tandem with the government’s vision towards creating a good life for all Guyanese. He reminded of government’s commitment to ensuring all Guyanese, regardless of their location, benefit from all public services. In this regard, he urged the staff to put aside politics and work towards achieving collective goals, to ensure critical services reach the people.

Phase One of Region Nine’s Regional Democratic Council was completed in 2017 at the cost of $17M to create space for the Regional Executive Officer (REO), a boardroom and a reception area. In 2018, Phase Two catered for workspaces for tourism, sport and social services officers and an office for the Deputy Regional Executive Officer (DREO).

Region 9 is the largest administrative region in Guyana geographically, with a population of over 15,087 spread across 50 plus villages. Due to the increase in population there was a need for more staff and additional space.
