The Administration of Region 5, Mahaica-Berbice is fine-tuning plans for its hosting of the Regional Agricultural and Commercial Exhibition (RACE) 2019 scheduled for 27 September. Similar to last year, the venue will be the community ground at Paradise Village, West Coast of Berbice.

Planning Committee for Mahaica-Berbice’s Regional Agricultural and Commercial Exhibition (RACE) in session.

This year’s exhibition will showcase the wide range of agricultural and commercial products produced and available for sale within Region 5.

At a recent meeting of the Planning Committee, held at Fort Wellington, Chairman Dolston Hutson disclosed that exhibitors will include commercial businesses, crops and livestock farmers, agro-processors, art and craft producers including metalwork and furniture manufacturers and other entrepreneurs whose products reflect the economic diversity of the Mahaica-Berbice Region.

Government agencies within the agricultural sector will also be present with a variety of related exhibits and advice on crops and livestock production. The Regional Health Department’s booth will feature health-related information and staffers will conduct basic health tests for persons who ask for same.

Hutson said that the Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) in the region are assisting in mobilising producers so that they can benefit from showcasing their products to the general public.

He said that the event will also be a golden opportunity for buyers, while the exhibitors will benefit from networking and interfacing with potential customers for their products.

The residents of the Indigenous community of Moraikobai on the upper reaches of the Mahaicony River are also expected to have a strong presence at the Region 5 RACE exhibition in terms of their products on display and unique cultural presentation.
