This excitement was palpable on Friday, when Minister of Social Protection, Hon. Amna Ally distributed the first set of branded ‘David G’ book bags to scores of children in Mahaica-Berbice, Region 5.

The children flocked the compound at the Number 5 Primary School where they all received their gift. Complimenting the bags are books, pencils, sharpeners, rulers and geometry sets; ensuring the children are fully equipped for the new school term.

A quantity of sporting equipment was also distributed.

According to Minister Ally, the distribution is in keeping with His Excellency, President David Granger’s wish for every youth to receive an adequate education.

Minister of Social Protection, Hon. Amna Ally hands over sports supplies to children in Region 6.

“The Coalition Government takes everyone into consideration. President David Granger’s vision is for all to have a good education. Because of that, we have decided to put together this back to school packages and have started this process of distributing to our children.” Minister Ally happily related to DPI.

The Social Protection Minister added, “as far as possible we aim to distribute to as many children as we can”.

Other regions are expected to benefit from the government’s back to school drive.

This back-to-school drive is in keeping with the President’s 5Bs initiative which provides free boats, buses, bicycles, breakfast and books intended to increase school-attendance which, in turn, will lead improved attendance which translates into better-educated students
