Dr. London disclosed that the woman visited the hospital after experiencing mild symptoms. She was however tested at home and later transferred to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where she is presently housed.

Public Relations Officer of the Linden Hospital Complex, Toshanna Allicock relayed that LHC continues to implement strict sanitisation measures so patients can feel safe when visiting the facility.

“We have implemented frequent sanitisation of all areas, especially the high-risk zones. We have ongoing training sessions for staff on how to properly sanitise and the correct way to wear PPE, disposal methods etc” she said.

Additionally, the hospital’s management is ensuring all staff are equipped with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), particularly those working in the Emergency department.

Dr. London noted that all required protocols and actions are being taken as they seek to safeguard residents within the region.

“We are monitoring, we are evaluating, and we are keeping a close eye out as we recognise that we need to remain proactive to ensure that all remain safe within Region Ten.”

He urged residents to continue adhering to the public health advisories.

“We are appealing to all to remain at home as it is the safest way to protect one’s self. We would like everyone to know that from a health position we are continuing to work to ensure that we safeguard the region as best as we can,” Dr. London said.

At a regional level, screening commenced at the Amelia’s Ward and 58 Mile Police Outposts as well as at the Kwakwani Water Front.

The Upper Demerara Hospital was identified as an isolation facility and equipped with the necessary supplies and protective gear to tackle COVID-19.
