Region 3 about to be lit!

─ contract for works already awarded

─ works to begin in three weeks

DPI, Guyana, Sunday, April 28, 2019

Approximately one hundred residents packed a classroom in the Utivlugt Secondary School to voice their concerns to Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson, on Sunday. This engagement followed the outreach which the government held at the National Track and Field Centre, Edinburgh, West Coast of Demerara.

Many residents spoke on the issue of insufficient lights in some communities in the region. In response to this prominent concern, Minister Patterson noted that as part of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure’s agreements for 2019, a contract has been awarded to “service all the lights from Wales area, all the way up to Parika.”

“The idea is to ensure all the lights on the main road are working”, said Minister Patterson.

Moreover, he also announced the tendering of an approximately $12M contract for works to install lights along the main access road for sections without lights.

“The commitment from the ministry to have the entire stretch of road lit, whether there are houses or not, just to ensure that for the safety of our citizens it is lit and working”, said the Infrastructure Minister.

The contract to service the lights on the main access road in Region 3 was awarded a week ago and works are set to commence within three weeks. These works are executed as part of the $38Billion approved by the National Assembly for current and capital expenditure for 2019.
