Speaking at the region’s flag raising ceremony on the eve of the country’s 48th Republic Anniversary, she noted that these positive effects trickle down to boost the potential of the extractive sectors particularly in the area of hydrocarbons. Minister Cummings stated, “Guyana is poised to become a major player on the world scene as we embark on entering the petroleum market.”

Minister Cummings noted that the regional administration has completed several major projects in 2017 at a cost of $68M, facilitating improvements to public infrastructure, education, and health.

“Under Public Infrastructure, the Region upgraded the Agatash Main Access Road for $13M and did much-needed revetment works in Agatash at a cost of $7M… roads in the housing scheme network were refurbished for $11M while the construction of the Kamara Bridge was completed to the value of $6M”, she said.

For education, it was pointed out that there was the completion of the Pairuma Primary School at a cost of $28M while the Bartica Hospital had its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) upgraded for $3M.

For recreation, the Mayor and Town Council in Bartica has been working assiduously to beautify the town. There have been notable developments in the West Indian Housing Scheme ‘Green Park’ and the transformation of the Bartica waterfront into a Boulevard.

Looking forward, development continues with an allocated budget of $2.5B set aside to rehabilitate the roads from Kato and Kamarang to Waramadong, construct a primary school at Kamarang and student dormitory at Waramadong and upgrade health facilities to reduce referrals to coastland facilities, the Minister underscored.
