Region Six administration rolling out its infrastructural works

DPI, GUYANA, Monday, January 29, 2018

The Region Six administration will be rolling out a number of infrastructural initiatives geared at improving the lives of the residents. Among this will be the rehabilitation of several roads within residential communities.

Regional Chairman of Region Six Mr. David Armogan addressing the women.

This was disclosed by the Regional Chairman (RC) David Armogan in an interview with the Department of Public Information (DPI).

Approximately five to seven additional roads will be included in the rehabilitation exercise, apart from those highlighted during the National 2018 budget.

Armogan indicated that these repairs have been undertaken by the region’s Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs), hence the focus is to assist them. “We (regional administration) have 16 Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) in the region and have identified a few roads within those NDCs to being works, so that people can have easy access within their community, in terms of transportation.”

According to the RC, road repairs undertaken by the municipalities will be completed by the Ministry of Public Infrastructure. The sum of $403,406,000 has been allocated in the national budget for the construction and rehabilitation of roadways in the communities of Fyrish, Friends Village, Agony’s Avenue, Canje, Liverpool, Number 72 Village, Port Mourant, Albion and Lesbeholden among others.

The RC also highlighted that an initiative to convert several wooden bridges in the Black Bush Polder area, to durable concrete bridges continues.

“This initiative was implemented by the regional administration for quite some time and will continue. Every year, we (regional administration) identify several bridges in the area to convert. Eventually, all of the wooden bridges would be removed and concrete bridges will be in place. This is because we recognised that every few years it was necessary for the region to go back and repair these bridges; this has been a problem,” the RC explained.

Armogan noted that due to the cost-effectiveness of the project, the administration has been able to budget for other areas that require attention.

$403,406,000 of the $6.4B allocated for Region Six in the national budget caters for its public infrastructure which covers the construction and rehabilitation of bridges at Kildonan, Nurney, Ulverston, Joanna, Adelphi and Angoys Avenue.
